For today’s post I am participating in my VERY FIRST BLOG BOOK TOUR. I will be reviewing 2 out of 3 books in the Beyond the Eyes Trilogy written by Rebekkah Ford. Before the blurbs of each book I will start my review. Hope you enjoy and decided to give this author a try! The links are posted after the review!
These books were gifted to me for a HONEST review and
that’s what you will be getting.
Beyond the Eyes in the first in a trilogy set. It centers around Paige Reed. Paige has many secrets. She can hear premonitions. She lost her father long ago and it still hurts her heart. During a night out with friends she meets the mysterious Nathan. She feels a deep attraction for him that she doesn’t understand. They start to hang out and Paige is a very insecure selfish girl in many parts of the book. Her behavior sometimes grated on my nerves but it didn’t distract from the story. All in all I was intrigued to continue this story to learn all the little secrets mentioned. Paige and Nathan are apart of a bigger plot. One he starts to reveal to her. She doesn’t react well to a lot scenarios in this book. It felt like she was shutting down at every corner. Paige’s mom is barely home but she calls to check up on her every now and again. It’s a sore spot for Paige. Beyond the Eyes has a lot of teen anguish and petty drama that most teenagers have to endure. But the story focuses on the dark spirits that can somehow possess humans and they have a fascination with Paige. I enjoyed the twists and plots. It’s well written and drew me in for the moment I started to read. Paige is hit with blow after blow in such a short time frame that you can’t help but feel bad for her. Every time you thing she’s getting a handle on her emotions, something happens to throw her for a loop. Paige also has a huge decision to make about her future. She has fiercely loyal and protective friends in Carrie and Tree (Jack). Paige’s past and present come rushing together and all before her eighteenth birthday. Who’s her friend and who’s her enemy? Paige’s eyes are open something wide in the first installment of the Beyond the Eyes trilogy.
Beyond the Eyes is pretty much everything you would aspect from a YA book but with the supernatural gracefully woven inside to make for a compelling I need to know what happen now page turner. I couldn’t read the pages fast enough. Nathan’s love for Paige touched something deep in my soul and rekindled hopes of one day having someone love me a all consuming as he loved her.
Favorite Quote: From Nathan to Paige
“You know each day with you is like opening a new and better present,” he said. “I know I keep saying this, but you truly amaze me.”
I know what you’re thinking. This is perfect. Nothing can go wrong. HA! Due to certain circumstances Paige’s first love comes into the fold and it wasn’t pretty. At all. Brayden is something else and that’s all I’m going to say about that. Well besides the fact that if I were Paige I wouldn’t be inclined to call him friend. I don’t care how long we had know each other, after his behavior. I’ll let you read it for yourself. I don’t want to give anything away. At least not more than I have to. Oh and I really hope Nathan hands Brayden his ass in one of the next two book. I don’t like him.
Most big questions that arose where mostly resolved or answered. Which was a huge plus for me because I’ve fairly impatient. It could be because it’s a trilogy and questions had to be answered quickly since there weren’t many books to stretch it out.
Rebekkah is a very compelling storyteller and I look forward to reading more of her works. Loved the twist towards the end. Did not see that coming.
Beyond the Eyes is currently FREE on Amazon.
4.5 out of 5 stars I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of the supernatural. Plus a bit of history is thrown in.
Beyond the eyes Book 1 – 298 pages
Published – June 2012
“A thrilling, wholly satisfying first book to a new young adult series. It will keep you wanting more.” –Valentina Cano, Carabosse’s Library
“Beyond the Eyes is haunting yet passionate. This breakout novel is quick and hip, a saucy must- read.”–Charles Land, Judas Pistol
Paige knows evil exists in this world, but she never imagined it would want something from her.
In the small town of Astoria, Oregon, surrounded by deep forest and endless mountains, another world thrives . . . a menacing one where dark spirits dwell in soulless humans. Seventeen-year- old Paige Reed lives in this lush, picturesque setting. She’s not your average teen, though she appears to be. Not only is she heartsick, but she’s been receiving cryptic premonitions from a ghostly voice since the age of four. After she hears a haunting message about herself, supernatural occurrences begin to confuse her.
Nathan Caswell seems to peer into Paige’s soul, evoking a magnetic energy between them they cannot deny. They’re connected. But he’s no ordinary guy. He tracks dark spirits and becomes alarmed when they set their sights on Paige.
When two power-hungry malevolent beings make demands on her, she realizes then the fate of mankind rest in her hands. Her world quickly turns inside out where the impossible becomes possible, and in the end she’s faced with a life changing decision that will not only alter her existence but the world as she knows it.
Can a deeply troubled teen overcome her own demons in order to fight those lurking about? With the past and present colliding, Paige must make the ultimate mortal choice. Will it be the right one?

Beyond the Eyes:
When we last left Paige her grandmother had just told her the horrific thing that she had done to her. She took the power of what was in Solomon’s rings and put it in Paige as a baby. Well she won’t be winning any grandma of the year awards.
Paige is all over the drama in this book with the mood swings. I get she is only 18 a child still really but she’s immortal now and a lot more important things are going on for her feelings to be hurt every other second. She knows there are things she can’t tell her friends for their own good but gets made at Nathan for sometimes doing the same with her. She doesn’t give him a chance to do things on his own terms and jumps to conclusions and reacts before thinking. I never understood those couples who needed to know every aspect of each other’s lives but maybe that’s just my flaw.
With the craziness going on in her life she needs to nut up or shut up. I’m three chapters in and already her childishness is giving me a headache.
That being said, any author that can make me seriously dislike a character is a keeper in my book. I read to escape into another world if I can conjure real emotions for a false world then job well done in my book.
This go round the ‘old one’ and Aosoth – two dark spirits are on two different sides of an upcoming cluster. They both want something from Paige and will do whatever it takes to get her. Then there are the spirits that don’t want Paige to be possessed by either dark spirit. They don’t want to be controlled by anyway and whoever has the power in Solomon’s rings and the incantations can do just that. All the while Paige doesn’t want anyone to know she is what can control them and she wants to get to the incantations.
Then we have Brayden. Ugh still don’t like him and I don’t like how Paige likes to compare him to Nathan. “Brayden would have let me do this.” “Brayden would have let me do that.” Seriously? Brayden violated you and all you’re worried about are petty emotions because Nathan – your boyfriend – wants to protect you and is worried about your safety. Instead of talking to Nathan about your feelings you sneak around with Brayden to valid your own selfish feelings with someone who is more selfish than you. That’s not how love works. You compromise or throw in the towel. You don’t basically cheat on your significant other because you’re not getting your way. Oh and lies by omission are still lies. Rant over. I just don’t like Brayden if you didn’t notice.
We find out who killed Paige’s father and grandmother. I didn’t think to even put it together. Totally threw one over me and I was even more surprised by who offered this information to Paige.
Ms. Ford has created a remarkable world with characters you love and hate. It’s a new inventive world and the second book is just as good if not better than the first.
Favorite Quote: Nathan to Pagie
“I have over a century in this dark world and both Brayden and you are just fledglings.”
Ha! That about sums it up!

Paige’s personal life gets more complicated when Brayden arrives back in town and offers the equal partnership she desperately craves from Nathan. Rebekkah Ford grew up in a family that dealt with the paranormal. Her parents’ Charles and Geri Wilhelm were the directors of the UFO Investigator’s League in Fairfield, Ohio, back in the 1970s. They also investigated ghost hauntings and Bigfoot sightings in addition to UFO’s. Growing up in this type of environment and having the passion for writing is what drove Rebekkah at an early age to write stories dealing with the paranormal. Her fascination with the unknown is what led her to write the Beyond the Eyes trilogy.

So I’ve been thinking that I may just post my book here first before I publish. It is finished but I feel the need to add more and if I keep doing that I may never publish because I may never think it’s finished. So I think I will write the first completed version in its entirety here. What do you guys think? Comments welcome and encouraged!
While I’m waiting on a cover so I can publish my book here’s another excerpt. I’m going through and making sure it’s the best possible book I can write. Enjoy!!
WARNING ADULT LANGUAGE MUST BE OVER 18
“Jackson, honey, you’ve really got to calm down. I’m sure Taz has realized that he’s gone too far. Come sit down and let’s watch some Supernatural. That should cheer you up. You love Sam and Dean.” Jackson just glared at him and kept pacing and muttering to himself about stupid Alphas. It was going to be a long night if he didn’t snap his lover out of his pissy mood. He didn’t have time for this. He hated when Jackson got good and pissed, especially if it didn’t involve make-up sex. Just when he was about to voice his opinion again he heard car tires screeching up the driveway.
“Who the hell is that? It better not be Taz,” Jackson growled. Holy shit, please don’t let it be Taz. Taylor went to look out the window and what he saw was so much worse. Not only was it Taz, but he had also brought Nathan, Krista, and what probably was her mother to their house. Jackson was about to seriously lose his shit and Taylor would be surprised if Taser was able to leave here without an ambulance. He knew the exact moment Jackson smelled them because he had gone eerily quiet. This was not good at all. He had just cleaned the carpets, and blood was a bitch to get out. A knock on the door had Taylor finally walking over to open it.
“I’ll get it. With any luck maybe I can get them all to go away or at least leave and call before just showing up.” Taylor swung the door open and without missing a beat said, “There had better be a good reason why you’re back here without calling and after pissing Jackson off this morning.”
“Yeah, about that. Maybe I did go a little too far,” Taz mumbled.
“Too far? That’s what you’re going to go with? Seriously! He’s still fucking pissed Jack…” Taylor suddenly stood rim-rod straight. Where the hell was that smell coming from? He had only smelled that odor once in his life… when he and Jackson had hit adulthood. Something was definitely wrong with this picture.
“Taylor, what’s wrong? What is it?” Jackson didn’t like this one bit. Taylor never stopped mid sentence when he was on a roll. Jackson watched as Taylor leaned in to sniff the redhead. She was cute for a chick. Wait, why the hell was Taylor growling? Jackson walked over to where everyone was standing, all as still as a statue, while Taylor growled and the redhead walked closer to him. “What in the hell is going on around here? Taylor, what the fuck is your problem?” As soon as the words left his mouth Jackson knew exactly what was wrong with his baby. This redhead was somehow their mate. Oh hell fucking no! He was not mating with a Mystic, especially one that was a woman. What the hell were they supposed to do with a woman?
“This must be some kind of witch trick. You are not our mate. We are already mated. Taylor, stop all that damn growling and rubbing up on this woman like a bitch in heat,” Jackson said as he grabbed Taylor and pulled him back against him. He knew something was about to go down but he had no idea this was what he had been feeling for the last couple of days. Just his luck, fate had mated him with a monster. He already had a mate damn it, and he didn’t want another one. “Look, lady.”
“Jennifer,” she interrupted him.
“Fine, Jennifer, I don’t know what kind of voodoo crap you’re trying to pull but he and I are already mated to each other. We don’t need another mate, so maybe you guys should leave.”
“First of all, asshole, I’m not into voodoo and if I was I wouldn’t use it for this. Second, we came over here for a reason and we aren’t leaving until you hear us out.” Jennifer was good and pissed. Finding a Nyhiya was supposed to be a happy time. Not this bullshit. Stupid Alpha males.
“Listen, murderer, I don’t want to hear anything you have to say!” Jackson growled loudly.
“MURDERER? You know nothing about me. How dare you?”
“Will the both of you just shut the fuck up for five seconds?” Taylor screamed over the both of them. “Now we are all going to sit down like adults while they explain what this little house call is about. We can deal with the mating part after.”
“That is a great idea. You’re right. I will explain why we are here and I will tell everyone what happened in 1625 as well because I am not a murderer. I’ve never told anyone what happened, not even my daughter. But I’m thinking it’s time. Especially with what happened last night. I’ve been thinking a lot about it and something just doesn’t feel right so maybe it’s time I talk all this out and we can go from there.” Jenny really didn’t want to get into what happened that night. She wasn’t even sure if she remembered it all. It all seemed to happen so fast. She hoped she could get through everything without freaking out.
“Mom, you don’t have to do this. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone. I know something awful happened. You don’t need to relive it.”
“Krista that’s sweet of you but I relive it all the time. I’m always looking over my shoulder thinking someone is coming for me. Shit, maybe someone finally is. Maybe I’m being punished or it’s someone who knows what happened and is playing sick jokes. Either way, this needs to be out in the open. I don’t want anyone else to get hurt.”
Jackson just bet she didn’t. He didn’t get a good feeling from whatever the hell was going on here but he really wanted to hear the story. No one really knew why Jennifer Johnston snapped and killed her family, but here she was willing to tell the story. If she really was their mate they would need to know anyway, so sooner was better than later. “Well let’s all sit down and get comfortable. We might be here for a while. Anyone want anything before we get this party started?” Taylor asked. Everyone called out their choice and Jackson and Taylor got drinks as they all settled in to hear a story no one else knew.
Just added another 1000 or so words to my first book. It’s coming along quite nicely I guess. At least to me it is. So ready to publish. Shooting for the 1st of July but I won’t rush it. I will let it flow naturally. Until then another awesome excerpt to pass the time.
WARNING ADULT LANGUAGE MUST BE OVER 18
“Hey Nate, I need you and Taz to meet me at Taz’s place… What? Oh that. Sorry. My Mom needed me… I will… That’s why I’m asking you guys to meet me. Some crazy shit is going on and I need your help to figure out what exactly… Thanks… See you guys soon.”
Now that that was out of the way, hopefully when Krista told them Jenny’s story they could help her piece together what the hell actually happened. “Don’t worry, Mom, let’s see if Nate and Taz can help. Maybe Taz’s Betas will be there as well.”
Ha! Somehow Jenny knew the shit was about to hit the fan. Whatever was going on was just getting started. She could feel her blood tingling and she just knew that it couldn’t mean anything good. She just wanted to relax and unwind a little. Now two people are dead and she had no idea who the fuck it was or what he or she was trying to accomplish. She should have gone home last night instead of falling asleep. She knew better.
Twenty minutes later Jenny and Krista pulled up to a nice little house with two men waiting on the porch. Awesome! She really didn’t want to involve any of them in this mess but Krista had already managed to do that. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to call her in the first place. That’s what she got for overreacting. Well—time to greet her new sons-in-law.
“Hello Ms. Johnston, I am Nathan Brimming and this is Taser Jameson. ‘Taz’ for short. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
At least they were both cute.
“Thank you, and it’s nice to meet you both as well. I regret that it’s not under more pleasant circumstances.” There, see? She could be cordial.
“So Kris, what had you so worried over the phone, babe?” Look at Nathan acting all concerned. Freaking cats!
“Oh well, the reason I left so early this morning is because… Hey wait a minute; what the hell is his problem? What’s with the face?”
That’s what Jenny was thinking. Taser was looking rather put out.
“My problem is the blatant disrespect from certain members of MY PACK this morning. Son of a bitch thinks he’s going to get away with speaking to me like that? We’ll just see about that. If he’s not here like I told him to be, there’s going to be a serious problem.”
“Really, Taz; I told you to get a grip and let it go. You were out of line and so was he. I’m sure it can be settled later. Right now Kris needs our help. Okay?” Well, well, well. Jenny wondered what all that was about.
“This isn’t over, Nate, but you’re right. Kris needs us right now. Sorry about that. So tell us what happened?”
After moving into the house, Jenny told them her story until she had fallen asleep, and what happened after she had woken up. They seemed amused at first, then horrified when she told them about the condition of the bodies. She hoped they didn’t think she did it and if they did, well… she really didn’t care. Jenny knew she would have never killed those people. She’s not saying she hadn’t killed before, but those murders she remembered. Those she could never forget, no matter how much she wanted to.
“Well?” Krista asked. “What do you guys think could have happened? I smelled a fourth scent but my nose isn’t as strong as either of yours.”
“We could always go back and see if we can get close. If someone has found the bodies already it won’t matter. But if we can get in there and try to catch the scent we might know them if we run into them,” Nathan suggested.
“Great idea. I don’t really want to go back but I want to know what’s going on and who’s trying to set me up.” Jenny really didn’t want to go but if they could help, then great. If not, then no harm done.
“Maybe we should bring your Betas along just in case,” Krista said.
“No. Seeing as how they haven’t showed yet even though it’s been several hours, we can go it alone. Besides, I’m still pissed at them.”
Holy crap. Alphas. Nathan really wished Taz would let it go already.
“Look, we’re not going over there for a pissing contest. I just want to see if they would be willing to help. It may make it easier for them to feel comfortable around us. We know what others think of Mystics. We’re not stupid. We hear the name-calling and we can smell the fear. If they don’t want to help that’s fine. We can’t make them. It’s not really even their problem.” Ha, Krista sure told him. While Taz was stuttering and sputtering she had grabbed her keys and was out the door.
“She’s right, Taz. We aren’t going over to start a fight. Just to see if they are willing to lend a hand. Now let’s go, babe, before she leaves us.”
The only thing Taz could think about this whole situation was that it was bullshit. He was the Alpha, damn it. How the hell was he supposed to lead if no one listened to a thing he said? So maybe he was looking for a fight. He was still freaked out about having mates and wanted to take it out on someone. But maybe picking a fight with Jackson wasn’t a good idea. Jackson could wipe the floor with him if he wanted to. He just hoped he wasn’t still pissed or things were going to get ugly and someone might just end up dead. Mainly Taz. What the hell was he thinking?
Well I haven’t posted an excerpt in awhile. I’m pretty much finished with the book. It just seems like I’m missing something, that’s why I haven’t published it yet. In all honesty I’m afraid but whatever. Here’s another piece of the puzzle.
WARNING ADULT LANGUAGE MUST BE OVER 18
Hm. The door isn’t locked… that can’t be good, Krista thought. She had no idea what happened here, but she knew her mother would have never left the door open.
“Krista, upstairs! Hurry! We have to cover this up and get the hell out of here before something else happens. Did you bring me some clothes?”
“Yeah, I have a bag with everything we need.” Jenny breathed a sigh of relief. That’s her girl! She knew she could count on her. She just wished she didn’t need it this instant. Jenny had already showered so she threw on what Krista brought over and they worked hard to rid all traces of her presence.
“Holy shit! You really don’t remember what happened, Mom? There is a lot of freaking blood. Not to mention the viciousness of the attack. I mean the bodies are in seriously bad shape. Like an animal ripped them apart. There is no way you could have done this. Why is it that you don’t remember what happened when you were right here?”
“That’s what I’ve been sitting here trying to find out. This doesn’t make any sense. Who would do something like this but leave me alive?”
“I don’t know Mom, but maybe someone wanted you to know that they were here or…”
“Or fucking what? I don’t speak to anyone outside of work and you know it. There’s the occasional feeding to curb my hunger, but that’s it. Why the fuck would someone want me to see this bullshit?
Well that was a good question, wasn’t it? It was a question no one had the answers to right now. Krista snapped a few more photos and they made sure to cover up any traces of Jenny ever being here. Then they got the hell out of dodge.
“Mom, look; I met my mates last night so maybe they can help. One is a Dylia and the other is a Hyjia. Yes I know it’s weird but that’s the way it happened. Let’s go to the pack lands and tell them what’s going on. Maybe they will have some answers.”
Just great. Jenny did not want to deal with this right now. A freaking pack. This was just a bunch of problems waiting to happen. “Sure, sweetie. Why the hell not? Congratulations as well. I’m going to rest my eyes. Wake me when we get there, ok?”
“Ok Mom. Don’t worry, we will figure everything out. Taz and Nathan may have a place to start.”
Hopefully someone knew something because Jenny had not a clue about anything anymore. She had killed her family years ago and fled without a word. No one could know she was here. She hadn’t seen or heard from another Mystic since that day besides her daughter. So just who was this prick who was trying to make her go insane? When she found whoever it was she was going to make them wish they were never born. No one fucked with Jennifer Johnston and lived to tell the tale. Her family was proof of that.
“Taz, just calm down. Everything will be okay. Everyone’s emotions are all over the place right now. Give him a few days. He’s your friend and Beta. Just let him cool down.” Nathan was trying his best to calm Taz down after the debacle at his Betas’ house. What the hell was all that about anyway? He would never understand wolves and their petty dominance games. A good Alpha would understand his Beta’s concerns over Mystics. The whole supernatural community avoided them like lepers and Nathan did as well before he met his Nyhiya, Krista. She confused him because she was nothing like the Mystics he was told about. The only thing that kept him from running the other way when he smelled her was the fact that she was his mate. If she were just a random Mystic he would have high-tailed it and ran as fast as he could to somewhere she wasn’t. All the Mystics he had the displeasure of running into before were nasty, vicious, inbred bastards. So he totally got where the Betas were coming from. Taser seriously could have handled the rejection better.
“Well excuse the fuck out of me! He had no right to speak to me that way. I am his Alpha. Not the other way around. Yes, he is a stronger Alpha than me but he chose to follow, not to lead. So if I tell him to jump, I want to hear him ask how fucking high.”
“Are you done or you want to keep being an asshole?” Nathan hissed sharply. He was getting annoyed. Did he mention he really hated dominance games? Shit was getting old. “Have you ever met a Mystic before Krista? No? Well I have, and I totally understand Jackson’s reaction. It was the proper reaction where normal people are concerned. People are afraid of them and with good fucking reason. I’ve run into a few myself and I can tell you for sure that Krista may be a Mystic but she is far from being anything like her brethren. She may have some of the characteristics and mannerisms but she is not like those psychopaths. So take a fucking chill pill before you lose your friends, pack mates, and Betas. If that ends up happening, being ‘the Alpha’ won’t mean shit.”
Let him chew on that for a few. Maybe by the time they reached the pack house he would have pulled his head out of his ass. Hopefully he would have a clear head and stop all that “I am Alpha, hear me howl” nonsense. Nathan didn’t want to have to lay the smack down on his mate this early into their mating. Bad enough he’s not getting to enjoy the mating heat at all, with one mate running off first thing this morning, and the second slowly losing his mind. Freaking wolves. Why couldn’t they be more laid back like the Hyjia? Guess all races can’t be as awesome as his now, can they?
WELL ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE I’VE POSTED BUT THE EDITS ARE BEING WORKED ON AS I TYPE. AFTERWARDS JUST GOTTA ADD A FEW PARTICULARS TO MAKE A STRONGER STORY AND NOT CONFUSE ANYONE THEN I WILL BE PUBLISHING MY LITTLE BABY FOR ALL TO SEE. WILL POST THE LINK ONCE IT IS AVAILABLE.
FIRST DRAFT IS OFFICIALLY DONE.
NOW COMES THE HARD PART….EDITING. I SUCK AT EDITING IN FACT I HATE IT. I’VE BEEN LOOKING AT PRICES FOR IT AND THEY ARE RIDICULOUS. I’LL EDIT LATER I GUESS. NOW I’M JUST GOING TO READ MY BOOK AND CHANGE OR ADD WHAT NEEDS CHANGING OR ADDING.
