Blog Award – Liebster Award

Well this is my first nomination for a Liebster Award and I’m thrilled. My little old blog got a mention. Thank you Jae for the nomination…

The Rules:

  • You must link back to the person who nominated you
  • You must answer the 11 questions given to you by the nominee before you
  • You must pick 11 nominees with under 200 (or 2000 if you want to) followers to answer your questions
  • You cannot nominate the person who nominated you
  • You must let the people you nominate know they have been nominated

Here are the questions Jae asked me:

1. If you were a superhero, what powers would you have? Why?

I would be able to read other people’s mind because rarely does someone say exactly what they are thinking. This would be handy when dealing with the opposite sex. They sometimes like to just ignore a girl versus telling them the truth: that they are just not that into them.
2. What would you do if you won the lottery? Why?

I would work because I wanted to and not because it was necessary. I want to be a Child Psychologist and I’m and an Indie Author. Even though I am very passionate about both, it would elevate a lot of stress that trying to make a living with less than stellar wages causes. I could spend more hours of the day writing than having to balance between writing, promoting my own stuff, and trying to find someone who didn’t charge outrageous amounts of money for cover, promos, and such. I could help more children if I had the funds necessary to raise awareness and help fund programs. I would also put a bit of money away so I can stay living comfortably and help out a few people who’ve helped me along the way.
3. Would you rather trade some intelligence for looks or looks for intelligence? Why?

I’d rather trade some looks for intelligence. I think I have been fairly blessed with both because I’m pretty and smart. You can never be too smart because as we get older outside beauty will fade but having a sharp mind and great conversation goes a long way.
4. What is your nationality?

I’m multi national and I love it. That I know of I’m black, white, Irish, Indian (don’t ask me which or how much lol), and various other European nationalities. I love it. I believe no one is one thing anyway. There was so much intermingling with different nationalist over the centuries (forced or voluntary) that we are all one big mixture.
5. If you were prime minister/ruler of the world what laws would you make? Why?

Mm, that’s a tough one. One would be adequate childcare and more careful screening, especially of parents who have been called out. I would like social workers to focus more on these incidents and would ensure they had the resources available to do so as well as the time. So much stuff is gone unnoticed because our people are overworked and stressed. Not that I think it should need to be a law (people should have common decency) but people would be able to love who they wanted and marry or not if they wanted without there being any outrage. What people do in their personal lives doesn’t always affect you in any way. We need to stop acting like it does. I would make sure our first line of defense (military) would be taken care of the way they should. They would have use of the rights and freedoms they fight for everyday for everyone else to have. If they didn’t agree with something I said it would be their right. As long as no one was threating anyone they would be able to state their opinions without fear of punishment. I wouldn’t allow prosecution or job loss over things that people see as morally wrong (cheating for example). As long as there was no murder, rape, and things of that nature it’s no ones business what goes on between two people. I could go on and on…
6. Which form of public transport do you prefer? Why?

My own car, I don’t have to wait on anyone or anything besides traffic. I can make my own schedule and not have to rush to meet someone else’s. I don’t have to be searched or scanned or anything else crazy to take myself someplace.
7. Have you ever been approached by someone who knew you but you couldn’t remember them for the life of you? Tell us about it.

I’m not entirely sure…I’ve been spoken to by someone who’s face I remember but couldn’t remember their name. It’s pretty awkward, especially when they speak to you and use your name. You can’t really focus on what they are saying because you are trying to remember where you met them and what their name was. You don’t want to ask because it makes you look bad and them feel bad that they remembered you but you couldn’t remember them.
8. What was your favorite nursery rhyme?

It’s been so long since I heard a nursery rhyme, I’m not sure if I remember any. Um…Little Bo Peep. To me it says when you can’t find something give it time, it will come to you. Even at that age we were being given amazing advice. I can’t count the times I’ve searched for something and never found it only to have it turn up when I was expecting it or looking.
9. What nicknames do you have/have had?

Kuita, Jay, Chiquita Banana, Mama Mia, Kay, Johnson, and the list goes on.
10. What was the first film you remember seeing at the cinema?

Well I’m not sure if it’s the first but I do remember going to the movie to see Queen of the Damned when it first came out. I went with a bunch of my friends from school. I remembered being so excited because once I knew the movie was coming out and someone told me their was a book, I read it before I saw the movie. I fell in LOVE! The book was so amazing and I was looking forward to it being on film. I had watched Interview with the Vampire on television or VHS can’t remember and I loved it (this was before I read the book mind you) and I thought awesome. This is going to be awesome. Needless to say the first time I saw Queen of the Damned in theater I was not impressed. At all. I was heartbroken and angry. So much was in that book and the movie fell way short. Later I found an appreciation for the movie as it’s own thing. I had to take away what I knew from the book and just enjoy it for what it was.

I RECEIVED AN ARC FROM THE AUTHOR FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

REVIEW OF ETERNALLY ALEX:

*I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest reveiw*

*Possible spoilers especially if you haven’t read the first two in the series*

3 out of 5 stars

I’m about 16% in to the book and I think they’ve had sex at least four to five times by now. I love a good sex scene but holy crap! I would much rather have a great story line. Also if I hear the words “it’s all about pleasure” or “you’re fucking fuckable” one more time I might scream! It was said several times in the first two book every time they had sex or he looked at her. Surely James’s vocabulary extends those two phrases. At this point I still believe Alex to be a whiny woman-child. Alex is a naive nitwit and all that drama with James’s mother, she should have stayed out. If the man says he doesn’t want to see the woman that abandoned him she should have agreed. Not get mad because she never had the chance to talk to her birth mother and take it out on James because he’s not interesting in finding out why his mother would walk out on him at six months. I just really don’t like Alex in any of the books. She tries to pressure other people to do things but gets mad if she feels pressured. I just feel like she’s always making James do something HE doesn’t want to do. He just ends up doing because he doesn’t want her unhappy and she doesn’t care about his happiness.

On a good note the bring in James’s mother was intriguing. Even though I found myself wondering what did she want it was enough to keep me reading. Even though I didn’t agree on how Alex pretty much backed James into a corner to meet her, I was interested enough to want to know why she was back all of a sudden. Minor things in the story kept me interested.

I was also given the other two books in this series by the author to read before this one. Overall a pretty good series but not one I would probably read again. I would give the series overall a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It’s a pretty good read to pass the hours but I wasn’t so wrapped up in it that i had to read it NOW. I took a few breaks here and there.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FROM THE AUTHOR

1- What is your favourite book that you have written?
I love Freeing Alex for no other reason other than it was my first, but really I like them all.

2-What is your favourite book by another author?
The Education of Sebastian and The Education of Caroline – Jane Harvey-Berrick, both of these stayed with me for days.  But I also adore the Black Dagger Brotherhood and could happily re-read and re-read – Sadly Phury was removed as the screensaver on my phone, I now have Rhage! (A girls to dream!)

3-What do you like to do in your spare time when not writing?
My family sails, although we’re all a bit fair-weather, cooking and reading, of course.  Oh, and I love a night out dancing with the girls a few Strawberry Bellini, but no more vodka, not ever again!

4-Is there any authors that inspired you to write?
Lots, but particularly new authors that came from nowhere.

5-Do you listen to music while writing if so who or what genre?
I sometimes listen to music, other times I like total silence. My musical taste is eclectic and ranges from Beethoven to Rizzle Kicks!

6-Have you any upcoming books you’d like to tell us about?
Well, Eternally Alex is now complete and ready to launch – so excited!  I’m aworking on another novel, working title is Never Say Love. It’s Benito’s story, a sort of prequel to Freeing Alex.  It won’t be part of the series, and has been written after I received a number of requests from my readers.  Once that’s done, there is another that is started but was shelved so that I could work on Never Say Love, that’s nothing to do with Alex at all.

7- Tell us some interesting facts about yourself?
·               I’m a true Piscean and have an over active imagination.
·               I’m a Staffordshire girl through and through.
·               I’m not scared of spiders, they all send for me when they find one.

AUTHOR BIO:

Sarah Elizabeth Ashley is a first time British writer born and raised in the Midlands county of Staffordshire where she still lives today with her family.

Forbidden to use her ‘real’ name by her children Sarah has said for years that she had a book “in her” But, finally finding the time, she quite literally let the words flow as her first novel, Freeing Alex, was created, the characters coming to life on her laptop, followed by Loving Alex, Eternally Alex, and more to come with fourth novel currently being written.

She describes herself as a true Piscean with an over-active imagination and says that it took a great deal of courage to release ‘Freeing Alex’ however, motivated by her husband and family she finally took the plunge and self published in August 2013.

“It started as a hobby, now it’s a passion.”

Looking Through The Fog

Image

This is my life right now. I feel like a vampire but without all the cool perks.  Holed up in my room with no lights and sunglasses on. Everything is blurry. Even writing this post I can barely see the letters I’m typing on the page. Only my great typing skills are making this post possible right now. It’s kind of annoying because I was given seven days off from my day job and I haven’t managed to get anything done like homework or second novel because I can’t really see. I thought I was going to be super productive but all I do is drop drops in my eyes, take Motrin and Benadryl and fall asleep. Wash and repeat for the last two days. I can’t drive either. Want to go somewhere or do something I need to be chauffeured around like British royalty. You’re probably saying all that complaining was it worth it? Hell yes! It was worth it for that 5 seconds of clarity I had with no glasses on right after the surgery. As soon as the healing process is over I will have the clarity back and hundreds of dollars saved from not having to buy glasses or contacts for a while. Will I need glasses again? Yes, as I get older I will probably need reading glasses but that’s just life but I will be able to see far away no problem. Which before PRK was a big problem. All in all I’m glad I did it even though I was terrified I’d be the 1% to come out blind. It really wasn’t that bad. You never felt anything because your eyes are numb but once the numbing worn off you’re eyes are pretty irritated and you can’t even touch them. Just apply eye drops like it’s the second coming to sooth the dry, itchy eye problems. The bonus Is I get to look super cool walking around in shades like the awesome person I am even at work for the next year! Score!

If you are thinking about having refractive surgery go for it! Totally worth it in my opinion.
