My Mind Is All Over The Place

Well I’m still on the high of publishing my first novel and I intend to ride it out for as long as it lasts. That being said now that I have finished the first book, I’m getting ideas for all kinds of things. I’m not complaining. It’s a good thing, but I just had a plan to finish the Dark Indiscretions Series first but other ideas pop up and I’m writing notes so I don’t forget and before I know it I’ve gotten a few paragraphs in. I said all that to say this: how do other authors do it? How do you maintain any shred of sanity with all these book ideas vying for space in your head? I try to sleep at night…idea pops up. I’m at work…scene plays out in my head. Half the time I don’t know what’s what. I have notes all over the iPhone and laptop. I guess it’s a good thing that I’m not planning to be a one book author (well at least my subconscious isn’t) but with classes starting again I’m starting to doubt where I’ll have the time to write anything besides research papers. Ha who am I kidding I do those the night before 🙂

  1. I have at least a dozen first pages of a novel on my hard drive. I usually know by the time I get to the bottom of page one if it’s going to work. I can’t write something if I don’t feel passion for the characters and the scenario. Other things don’t have enough substance to turn into a novel, and they turn into short stories or micro-novels. So, yeah, I don’t know what to do with al the ideas but write a page and see if it sparks to life.

That’s a good pic of you, by the way. It would be a good pose for a publicity still, though you’d have to do better lighting and not wear a jacket the same color as the wall. That was supposed to be a compliment, but it turned critical at the end. Sorry!

    1. Hahaha yea I was playing with pics for book cover photo because I need one. Wasn’t expecting to take it by the wall and yea the lighting wasn’t enough. Gonna get a professional one done feb 1 was trying to save money but sometimes you just gotta get someone who knows what they are doing. You are the worse complimenter lol

I have two ideas that have nothing to do with the series I’m currently working on. I have some good notes on both but I’m trying to ignore them in favor of finishing the series first but they demand to be heard so what can you do.

      1. Maybe jot down a synopsis of your ideas so you don’t lose them. That’s another problem… thinking I have a good idea, not writing it down, and then remembering later that I had a good idea, but not the idea itself.

Let me try the compliment again: Whoa, who’s that smokin’ hot babe in the picture?!?!?!?

Too late? Eh, what else is new? Seriously, speaking professionally (?), it is a good pose and a good angle and hairstyle for you, so if you could recreate it with proper lighting and a more interesting backdrop, it would work as a press pic or whatever. I couldn’t afford all that (or maybe I have too little to work with lol), so I took my avatar and “official” blog pic in B&W and with noir lighting, which came out pretty good (given that my then 10-year-old son was operating the camera).

        1. Yea that’s basically what I did with the ideas. I’m thinking of making one a short story since I haven’t gotten a lot from the idea. I can try to recreate. A guy I work with is a photographer he’s charging me 50 for some head shots so not too bad.

          Nice try on the compliment!!

I just need something better than the one I used for my current book which I took with my phone.
